Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: Top New Features You Should Know About

It is no longer news that Samsung just announced its latest foldable smartphones and this article will focus on the Galaxy Z Flip5.

As you can tell from the name, this is the 5th generation of the Galaxy Flip phones and it comes with significant design upgrades that immediately make it a worthy upgrade even for those using the predecessor that was announced less than a year ago.

Without wasting much of your time, let's get to those features and what it means for those who will be getting the Samsung Z Flip 5.

Bigger Cover Display - Flex Window

Samsung Z Flip5 comes with an amazing 3.4-inch cover display which is almost twice the size of its predecessors' cover screen which is at 1.9 inches.

The Z Flip 5 didn't just come with a bigger cover display, it had to be relocated. What am I talking about? Well, the cover display on the Z Flip4 is in line with the dual camera at the bottom when folded.

However, with the Z Flip 5, the dual cameras are no longer vertically aligned and in line with the display. They are now horizontally placed beside each other with the display covering most of the space above them.

The bigger display seems to be Samsung's response to the Moto Razr+'s cover display which the consumers gave a positive rating over the tiny ones that Samsung has always used.

Even though the Z Flip5 has a bigger screen when folded, it is still not as functioning as the one on the Razr+ because not all apps are usable on the former compared to the latter.

I am assuming they want to hear the consumer's feedback first and decide if or not they will release a software update that will make virtually all apps usable from the cover display.

I mean it can't be that hard, the Razr+ cover display is only 0.2 inches bigger.

At the moment, the Flip5 cover screen only works great with widgets including but not limited to Weather, Clock, Calendar, Camera, etc.

New Flex Hinge

Another notable design upgrade that the Z Flip 5 brought is the redesigning of the Hinge.

The Galaxy Z Flip5 comes with a new Hinge dubbed Flex Hinge by Samsung.

Flex Hinge closes the gap between the two halves of the Flip phone when folded which makes the device thinner and aesthetically more pleasing to the eye.

If you think the redesigned hinge meant no more crease, sorry, you will be disappointed to hear that the crease is still there are isn't less noticeable.

New Processing Power and Storage Options

Samsung Z Flip5 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chipset which is a more powerful and more efficient processor than the 8 Gen 1 on the Z Flip4.

It is faster and better for multitasking experience. It is also power efficient which significantly increases the battery life and usage time of the Flip5 compared to its predecessor.

Z Flip 5 also comes with a base storage of 256GB which is double the base storage (128GB) on the Z Flip 4.

Internal Camera Upgrade and Protection

While the camera is still virtually the same thing as the one on the Z Flip4, it has a slight upgrade in the aperture from f/2.4 to f/2.2.

The Z Flip 5 has about 25% more scratch and drop resistance compared to its predecessor thanks to Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection at the back and Armor Aluminum frame.

Samsung Z Flip5 was immediately available for pre-order and will start shipping on the 11th of August.

You can currently Pre-order this device for NGN 400,000 though the full price in Nigeria is about NGN 935,000 for the 512GB and NGN 860,000 for the 256GB.
